a flower and peace

the deliberate clicks of lonesome heels on the hardened tar
of the lonely city

            in the
night

where in the marred glow from the distant
city

bright lights

                                    shine
reluctantly from a faded luster
                                                 light globes
                                                that
had seemed so dull,  and ordinary, before

now, with a renewed sparkle,
never seen before

                                                happiness,
of a kind unexciting
                                                     but pleasant, in its
consistency and stability

           and the
feel of the soft, cool night all around me

                                    the
crisp break of a blossom from its stem

                                                    its red heart and yellow.bordering.petals
                                                 flaw of green
behind it
                                                            not
to be let go

            its dewy
cool blossoms pressed to my lips
                moist flesh lined against mine.

                                               a
flower and peace.
