unknown cause.


 


it rained today,


 


                                    and reminded me of home.


 


 


            —the thunder pounding,


                                    and breaking¡­


                                                                        grumbling


                                                                                    dimly

                                          G     H                                           N                        and hurling


                                                                                                                across


                                                      T                                  I                      the bleak


                                                                        N                                    night


                                                                                                                        sky.


 


                                                                                                — purple


                                                                                                          the color of black-eyes


                                                                                                               against hospital


                                                                                                                          whites


                                                                                                                        needling¡­


                                                                                                                and bleeding


                                                                                                            across the sky


                                                            like inverted


                                                       black veins


                                                            on pale,


                                                translucent


 


                        .skin


 


 


¡­ and the calls of voices,


 


                        young and familiar,


 


                                                                        RINGING      out


 


                                                            with whoops of joy


                                                                carpe` diem


 


                                                                                    and the confidence,


                                                                                       and arrogance,


                                                                                                of youth.


 


                                                                                                               [in    defiance


                                                                                                of     the world]


 


 


                                    but the echoes of the sound,


                                                do not resonate directly up to the


                                                                                    bruised, opague¡¯(n)[d] heavens


                                                                                                            as they did


                                                                                                         with us


 


                                                {trees and grass and darkness


                                                     our only witnesses as


                                                                   we ran through the


 


                                                                                heartbeat.pause


 


                                                        that held its breath before th  e rain began to fall¡­


 


                                    and our triumphant cries


                                                rose up


                                                   to the infinite skyes¡­


 


 


                                                                        wordless prayers


                                                                                    to an


                                                                            unknown cause;


 


                                                                                                            [like a neophyte¡¯s


                                                                                                      novice


                                                                                                         heathen ritual;


 


                                                                                                            –lacking grace


                                                                                                                        and art


 


                                                                                                                   but energy


                                                                                                                        and ardor


                                                                                                                                          {


as such,


   in its first


virgin bloom]                                                                                        replete}


 


 


                                                b ut   no.


 


                        these calls


                           ring out


                                    against


                                                buildings and streets.


                                                                                    desert


                                                                                                and emptiness


 


                                                                                                ;scabrous


                                                                                    serrated


                                                mountain ranges


                                    of


                           outer


            Mongolia


 


and high-rises and apartments,       (   sky-scrapers


filled with people                ( ,         detached  ,                  as if by held by


                                                                                            a spider¡¯s thread..             looking up only in glance at the thunder in. night,                                         .. apart]


 


                                               to blink, and move on.


 


 


                                                                                                                        no.


                                                                                                            this is not home

Wonderfully done. The imagery near the end was quite excellent.
